Within the framework of operations and development of hydrocarbon fields in Qatar, Maersk Oil integrated a SPIE Oil & Gas Services petrophysicist in their Qatar project team. His function was to identify reservoirs and determine accurately reservoir and fluid characteristics in a quantitative well log interpretation.
The first action of our specialist was to control the quality of well data: control of the header, calibrations, parameters, repeat section and main logs, identification of the reference depth (GR or RHOB log), creation of the bit size and shoe size and conversion of units (Neutron, GR,…). The second step was the elaboration of detailed composite logs: log depth matching and SP baseline shift, artifacts identification and correction, application of log borehole corrections, pre-computations and environmental corrections of logs and merging of logs regarding the different drilling phases. The final work consist of the quantitative interpretation of the logs and determination of the fluids characteristics in terms of nature and mobility in the reservoir units.
During this project the SPIE Oil & Gas Services petrophysicist interpreted 295 wells.
